About this kit

This Jazzmaster design features a completely re-imagined control layout, built around what Leo famously called the Passive Treble, Bass system—a circuit architecture he loved. This system, which can be found in countless versions of his guitars and adopted by various boutique brands, essentially offers two distinct tone controls:

Standard Tone Control: Functions classically, rolling off treble (highs).
Bass Contour: Rolls off the bass frequencies.

The true versatility and uniqueness of this system come from combining these two controls to create a wide palette of tones.

However, true to our nature, we didn't just copy the idea. We took the core principles of Leo's design and tweaked them extensively to make this circuit uniquely ours. Find out what we did below

How our Circuit works

1. Volumes (1 & 2): Independent Volume Controls

Each pickup now has its own volume control: (1) Bridge Volume and (2) Neck Volume. The volume circuit has been redesigned for independent control, meaning that in the middle switch position, rolling off one volume will not cut the entire signal, unlike a traditional setup.

2. Toggle Switch (3): Standard 3-Way Selector

This is a standard toggle switch with the following positions:

Position 1: Bridge pickup only
Position 2: Neck and Bridge pickups
Position 3: Neck pickup only

3. Old Rhythm Switch (4): Phase Switch

This switch, which previously engaged a rhythm circuit, now functions as a phase switch. When both pickups are active (Switch Position 2), engaging this switch puts the pickups out of phase with each other.

4. Treble Contour (5): Modified Tone Circuit

This control moves away from the traditional design, instead adopting a different circuit architecture used by Leo in the early days. This "Tone circuit" offers a unique sound profile compared to a tradional tone control that we have found to be highly favored by many players.

5. Bass Contour (6): Low End Bass Roll-off

Functioning similarly to a standard tone control, but in reverse, reducing the setting on this knob gradually removes some of the low end bass frequencies.

Requirements

The Phase Switch is compatible with standard Jazzmaster pickups. However, when installing non-standard pickups, such as humbuckers, they must have a minimum of two conductors.
Converting an Import or MIJ guitar to US spec
- US Spec pots will require you to have a US spec Pickguard as the pot holes have to be 3/8th. Double check if your pickgaurd is already 3/8th before replacing. Some guitars come stock with a US spec pickguards even though they have metric pots.
- If You are switching from CTS pots to our custom ones, you will need to get new knobs as our pots feature the more common 18 tooth "coarse" knurled.
