Swapping out a Gibson PCB setup for a handwired kit

Whatever your motive is for replacing the PCB setup in your Gibson guitar. You should know that it can be somewhat problematic if you miss one key detail.

Gibson changed their standard color code in the bridge pickup!

Now before you yell at them for doing that, it was a smart design choice. Basically, Gibson designed it so when you use the splitting option on their pcb setup on both pickups in middle switch position the 2 "single coils" are humcancelling. Something you find in modern Strats in the 2 and 4 positions.

Neck

So for the Neck it is the classic color code

  • Red = Hot (+)
  • Green/White soldered together = Series Link (S)
  • Black = Finish wire (-) (Technically the south start but we mean "to finish the circuit")
  • Bare = Chassis Ground

bridge

Now heres the color code for the "Weird" pickup.

  • White = Hot (+)
  • Red/Black soldered together = Series Link (S)
  • Green = Finish wire (-) (Just like before "to finish the circuit")
  • Bare = Chassis Ground
